Rosario Angelo Livatino, judge and martyr (1952–1990)
Martyr
Italian magistrate and martyr of the mafia, Rosario Livatino exercised justice as a responsibility placed "under the tutelage of God." Brilliant, calm and reserved professional, he investigated criminal networks and corruption without accepting privileges or special protection.
Biography
He actively participated in his parish and used to stop before the Blessed Sacrament before entering the court. The mafia considered him incorruptible precisely because of the coherence of his faith. On September 21, 1990, he was ambushed while traveling alone to work and killed after trying to flee on foot. His authority was born from uniting law, conscience and respect for each person.
