Peter the Apostle
Apostle and martyr
Simon Peter, a fisherman from Galilee, was called by Jesus to become a fisher of men.
Biography
He confessed Jesus as the Christ, received a special mission to strengthen his brothers, and yet also experienced fear, misunderstanding, and denial. After the Resurrection, Christ restored him through a threefold question of love and entrusted him with the care of the flock. Filled with the Holy Spirit, Peter preached boldly, guided the early Church, and opened the door of faith to the Gentiles. Tradition holds that he suffered martyrdom in Rome under Nero.
Practical advice
Pray especially for the Pope today, and charitably strengthen in faith someone who needs encouragement.
