November 2
Commemoration of All the Faithful Departed
Commemoration
On this day the Church prays for all the faithful departed, especially those who have no one to remember them by name.
Biography
Christian prayer for the dead rests on faith in Christ’s death and resurrection, the communion of saints, and God’s merciful purification. The Eucharistic sacrifice, personal prayer, works of charity, and visits to cemeteries express both love and hope. Remembering death does not lead Christians to despair; it teaches them to live responsibly and to await the resurrection of the body and eternal life.
Practical advice
Offer a prayer, a small sacrifice, or participation in Mass for a deceased person who may be forgotten.
