Belgian Franciscan known as the "Holy Father of Hasselt", Valentín Paquay stood out for his tireless ministry in the confessional and his closeness to simple people.
Biography
Ordained a priest in 1854, he remained almost his entire life in Hasselt, where he preached with clear language, guided numerous souls and promoted frequent communion before this practice became widespread. His spirituality united Franciscan humility, devotion to the Eucharist, the Sacred Heart and the Virgin. He died on January 1, 1905, after half a century of priestly service.
