Sigismund Gorazdowski (1845–1920)
Founding priest
Polish priest called “Father of the Poor,” Sigismundo Gorazdowski dedicated his ministry to those who society left behind.
Biography
Although a serious illness delayed his ordination, he persevered until receiving the priesthood in 1871. In Lviv he promoted soup kitchens, homes for the elderly, sick and single mothers, and founded the Congregation of the Sisters of Saint Joseph to support these works. He also wrote catechetical materials and promoted good press. Their activity sprang from the Eucharist and a deep trust in Providence.
